And just like that, it’s mid January and the race for summer adventure is on. With Glastonbury taking a year off, we’ve seen an unprecedented rush on bookings for the British GP and the July festivals of Latitude, Wilderness and Camp Bestival —meaning our mid-summer diary is almost full. For our site spotlight this week, I thought you would interested to read my take on the trend toward the “supersized” in modern life. From the ever-expanding dimensions of the modern car to the sprawling footprints of contemporary architecture, our collective appetite for space shows no sign of waning. Happily, this “bigger is better” philosophy has found its way into the world of motorhoming, manifesting in the rise of the Super Size Pitch.

While I often champion the freedom of the open road, there is a distinct pleasure in arriving at a destination where the proportions are as generous as the views (especially if you are planning to linger for a while).

For those planning to truly settle into the GlamperRV lifestyle, these jumbo pitches offer far more than just extra square footage. They represent the ultimate in “frictionless” travel.

If you are new to the world of high-end motorhoming, you may wonder why these expansive plots are fast setting a gold standard for the discerning traveller.  Here’s what I believe sets them apart:

• Secluded spaces: These pitches are often bordered by mature hedging or clever landscaping, ensuring your morning coffee is enjoyed in private.

• All-Weather Sophistication: Level, premium hardstanding provides a stable, clean base for your vehicle, regardless of what the British weather has in store.

• Seamless Utilities: Direct, “plug-and-play” access to electricity, fresh water, and grey waste drainage. It removes the chore of “fetching and carrying,” leaving more time for the sundowners.

Back of Beyond, Dorset
An adults-only sanctuary. The pitches here are wonderfully generous and back onto serene, rolling countryside.

Deepdale, North Norfolk
Their “Super Jumbo” pitches (approx. 17m wide) offer incredible scale in one of the most charming corners of the Norfolk coast. A firm favourite with GlamperRV guests (pictured above).
