Flanders Springtime GlamperRV Adventure

Spring Blooms: A Journey through Flanders

I know I’m not alone in celebrating the end of January. Whist I’ve never been one for “Dry January” or sudden health crazes, I do have a deep-seated need to escape the gloom and find a little inspiration elsewhere.  I hope that our Flanders Springtime GlamperRV Adventure inspires you.

This year, my excuse for a getaway was a trip to the US with my 18-year-old son, who is exploring football scholarships at American universities. We certainly didn’t find any warmth (it was -15°C in Boston last weekend!), but we were blessed with seven days of glorious winter sunshine, a favourable exchange rate, and that infectious American friendliness.

Regardless of the political climate, everyone we met—from small towns to major cities—went out of their way to help. It is a service-led culture that many in Europe could benefit from embracing, and it is certainly the ethos we strive to bring to GlamperRV.

Returning home and spotting the first shoots of life in the garden, nothing inspires me more than the thought of spring flowers. If you are looking for the ultimate way to welcome the season, there is no better destination than the tulip fields and spring blooms of Belgium and the Netherlands. Many of our customers have explored the Benelux countries over the years, consistently delighted by how effortless “RV life” is in this part of the world.

Your Flanders Springtime GlamperRV Adventure Itinerary

Stop 1: Ypres
Your journey begins with a seamless Eurotunnel crossing to Calais, followed by a gentle 90-minute drive into the heart of Flanders. Ypres is deeply significant for its WWI history and offers wide, easy-to-navigate roads—perfect for our A-Class motorhomes.

Where to Stay: We recommend Urban Gardens, a highly rated campsite just outside the city. It’s a pleasant 10-minute stroll to the Menin Gate and offers modern, high-end facilities.

The Experience: Be sure to witness the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate (8:00 PM nightly) and visit the immersive In Flanders Fields Museum.

Stop 2: Bruges

Next, head to the “Venice of the North.” While the medieval city centre is preserved from motor traffic, there is a fantastic aire a short walk from the city centre.

Where to stay:  Kampeer Autoterrein is a renowned “aire” located right next to the canal. It is just a short, picturesque walk into the heart of the city.

The Experience: Beyond the essential canal boat tour, how about a private horse-drawn carriage from the Market? For the gourmands among you, Bruges’ Michelin-rated dining scene is second to none.

Stop 3: The Floral Grandeur of Brussels & Beyond

To see the tulips in their full glory, visit Groot-Bijgaarden Castle for the Floralia Brussels event (early April to early May). Imagine 14 hectares of 17th-century estate gardens blanketed in over 400 varieties of tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils.

For the ultimate floral pilgrimage, continue north into the Dutch Bollenstreek region.

Where to stay:  A customer stayed at that the rural, dairy farm camping of Boerderijcamping Jachtlust and said it was a fabulous place from which to explore both Keukenhof and the tulip fields of Holland.

The Experience: This is the home of the world-famous Keukenhof and the spectacular Flower Parade on Saturday, 18th April 2026.

Driving Your A-Class in Belgium
Navigating Belgium in a GlamperRV is a joy, provided you follow a few simple rules of thumb:

  • Avoid City Centres: Stick to the “Ring” roads. Use the well-appointed “Park and Ride” (P+R) areas or dedicated camper parks to avoid narrow medieval streets.
  • Toll-Free Travel: Most Belgian motorways are toll-free for private motorhomes, making it one of the most cost-effective regions to tour.
  • Low Emission Zones (LEZ): Major cities like Antwerp, Ghent, and Brussels have strict LEZs. You can easily register your GlamperRV online before you travel to ensure a hassle-free journey.

Planning a spring escape? If you are eyeing that April Flower Parade, I highly recommend booking your campsites now, as they are the hottest tickets in Europe that week!

I hope you have enjoyed our Flanders Springtime GlamperRV Adventure.
