Escape to the Lake District in style

A Lake District Escape

If you are eagerly awaiting the release of the new Bridget Jones film ‘Mad About the Boy’  then you may have heard how the film captures the Lake District Escape in all its glory.  The region doesn’t really need the publicity but then again, it’s such a firm favourite with GlamperRV customers that I had to wade in there!

If it’s the focus of your trip, a stop off en route to Scotland or as a bolt on to a festival we have many visitors going on a Lake District Escape every year. To beat the summer rush, we’ve scouted out three hidden gems that are perfect for your GlamperRV and have rave reviews from previous guests.

The first is Low Sizergh Farm near Kendal.

This gem of a site is located on the southern edge of the Lake District National Park.  Not far off the M6 so would make a great stopover for trips further North.  It is set on an organic dairy farm so if you are an early riser, watch the cows come in for milking.  It’s the sort of campsite where you can fill a bottle with fresh, organic, raw milk (that is, unpasteurised) from a vending machine only yards from the milking parlour!

It has a highly rated shop and barn café onsite, is a short stroll to a local pub and a longer walk along the disused canal into Kendal.

Further north just outside Keswick sits Burns Farm.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District in the picturesque Valley of St John’s in the Vale, Burns Farm is surrounded by some of the country’s largest mountains, Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra.  This is a very modern site on a traditional working farm with panoramic views of the local fells.

It’s peaceful location is an easy 5k walk/cycle into Keswick along the old railway line and a short walk into Threlkeld for pub and café.

If you are looking for a super quiet location then take a peak at our final site – Kings Meaburna Wild with Consent location.

Situated between the National Parks of the Lake District and Westmorland Dales – you will be on your own here in an idyllic hay meadow, the perfect place to relax and unwind.

It offers great walking without the crowds, a morning wild paddle in the river and fresh milk from the farm all whilst being in walking distance of the village pub in Kings Meaburn.

Booking tip: These campsites are small and get booked up quickly, especially with the continued popularity of the Lake District. So, if you’re dreaming of a Lake District escape amidst stunning scenery, our advice is to book early!

As always, happy planning!
