A North East Adventure

A North East Adventure

Ah, the thrill of a New Year! It’s the time when our customers start contacting us, eager to start planning their GlamperRV adventures.

I’m forever collecting tips from our guests to create truly compelling GlamperRV itineraries that I know you’ll love. A huge thanks must go out to all of you who share your overnight recommendations with us – you’re invaluable!

This week’s trip whisks you away on a glorious GlamperRV North East Adventure. Steeped in history, this crucial border region between England and Scotland, is home to a wealth of historical sites to explore. That’s not all – North East England also boasts some of England’s most stunning beaches.

Day 1: Buckinghamshire to Clennel Hall Riverside Park
Set off from our Buckinghamshire base mid-morning (ideally avoiding Fridays), and by afternoon, you could be parked up at Clennel Hall Riverside Park in Northumberland, enjoying a cup of tea.

This tranquil site sits on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, offering direct access to numerous hiking and cycling trails – perfect for unwinding at the outset of your trip. Several excellent pubs are also within easy reach.

For anyone embarking on their first GlamperRV adventure, I highly recommend spending the first night or two at a campsite. This gives you a chance to unwind and adjust to #vanlife.

Day 2: Jedburgh
History buffs and foodies, Jedburgh awaits! A visit to the magnificent Jedburgh Abbey and the imposing Jedburgh Castle is highly recommended. And for a terrific meal, The Caddy Man Restaurant comes highly recommended. It also serves as a motorhome stopover, so you can dine and sleep all in one place – the beauty of exploring in your own 5* hotel on wheels!

Day 3-4: The Northumberland Coast
Now, we head towards the coast, the undeniable highlight of this region. Miles of sandy beaches and a plethora of castles await, promising an unforgettable experience.

Your first stop for the night is The Barn at Beal, perfectly situated for a visit to Holy Island (remember to check the tide times beforehand!). Holy Island, steeped in history, is considered possibly the holiest site of Anglo-Saxon England.

If you like the idea of staying somewhere truly isolated then I recommend you try the Wild with Consent site at Elwick.  GlamperRV guests have stayed here and loved the tranquility of having a huge field to themselves whilst enjoying the stunning views across the bay to Lindisfarne Castle.

Further down the coast lies Bamburgh Castle, arguably the region’s most spectacularly located castle. Here, you can try “wild camping” in a designated parking area – a new initiative by Northumberland County Council that allows for pre-booking.

Day 5: Bay Ness Farm and Robin Hood Bay
Looking for a campsite with a view? Look no further than Bay Ness Farm. Overlooking Robin Hood Bay, this site offers stunning vistas and numerous walking and cycling routes to Whitby and Robin Hood Bay itself.

Day 6: York (Optional)
If you’re looking to mix things up on your return journey, the historic city of York is a fantastic detour. Manor Farm, a small and peaceful site on the banks of the River Ouse, is just a 30-minute walk from York city centre – perfect for exploring this captivating city.

Day 7: Back to Buckinghamshire
After a week of exploring North East England’s beauty, it’s time to head back to our base in Buckinghamshire.

This itinerary creates a fantastic seven-night trip, but the possibilities are endless! If you have the time, there are countless opportunities to extend your adventure and discover even more of this incredible region.
