A GlamperRV Cotswolds Adventure

Explore the Cotswolds in a GlamperRV

Last weekend, while delivering a GlamperRV to a customer in the Cotswolds, I was captivated by the stunning scenery. Driving through Burford and on towards Chipping Norton, the soft, gentle hills, vibrant with oilseed rape, were a feast for the eyes. My elevated view from the GlamperRV allowed me to fully appreciate the landscape, sparking the idea to share with you a memorable Explore the Cotswolds GlamperRV tour.

My deliveries often involve cycling to the nearest station, and the quiet Cotswold roads, where I encountered more horses than cars, were a delight. For those who enjoy touring by bike, the Cotswolds is ideal, dotted with charming villages and inviting coffee shops. You’ll find numerous well-maintained cycling routes, allowing you to immerse yourself in the tranquil countryside.

Your first stop must be a visit to Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Simply wandering through the expansive landscaped gardens, designed by Capability Brown, and admiring the baroque architecture of the palace itself can easily fill a couple of hours.

Blenheim is just an hour’s drive from our Buckinghamshire base, making it perfect for a leisurely lunchtime visit before heading to Wysdom Touring Park in Burford for your first overnight stop. This highly-rated, adult-only site offers a peaceful environment within easy walking distance of the charming town of Burford, often referred to as the “gateway to the Cotswolds.”

Burford boasts a picturesque high street sloping down to the River Windrush, lined with historic buildings, independent shops, antique dealers, and traditional pubs offering excellent dining options. Don’t miss the opportunity for a stroll through the town. Adjacent to the campsite is also a large, very well to do garden centre, offering a wide array of homeware and foods – perfect for a morning browse.

Your next stopover is Cirencester, another highly recommended destination. I visited a couple of years ago for a wedding and would definitely advise an overnight at the Cirencester Park Caravan Site. This historic market town, offers a compelling blend of Roman history, medieval architecture, and a vibrant contemporary culture.

Head north to Bourton-on-the-Water, often called the “Venice of the Cotswolds,” a popular spot with the Instagram crowd, and well worth a visit despite its popularity. Its charming high street, straddling the River Windrush with its series of low stone bridges, is undeniably picturesque.

Two excellent accommodation options are available: Bourton Rovers Football Ground (with full services, but best avoided on match days) or the adult-only Cotswold Carp Farm. All pitches at the Carp Farm boast lakeside views, providing a peaceful retreat, and it’s just a pleasant 10-minute walk into the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water. For those seeking a longer hike, a lovely circular loop takes in the pretty and equally charming town of Stow-on-the-Wold.

Many customers enjoy visiting Clarkson’s Farm and the Diddly Squat Farm Shop. Located in Chadlington, it offers a glimpse into modern farming and the opportunity to purchase locally sourced produce and merchandise (be prepared for potential queues, especially during peak times). For your final night, consider a nearby pub stopover. The Tite Inn in Chadlington which offers a traditional pub atmosphere and good food, and it’s just a short cycle up to the farm shop.

Explore the Cotswolds – it boasts numerous fabulous campsites, catering to various preferences and offering different levels of amenities.

With limited availability over the Whitsun May bank holiday and into June, I highly recommend booking your GlamperRV and securing your preferred campsites as soon as possible to ensure a relaxing and memorable break without too much driving between locations.

I hope this inspires you for your own GlamperRV adventure.

As ever, happy planning!
